Xunantunich, Belize

Where exactly is Belize located?

Nestled between Mexico to the North and Guatemala to the South and West, lies the captivating country of Belize. With its close proximity to the United States and Canada, just a few hours away by plane, and its easy access to neighboring Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico, Belize offers a world of possibilities within reach.

Belize is a melting pot of diverse cultures, each contributing to the vibrant tapestry of our nation. From the ancient Maya heritage to the vibrant Garifuna community, and from the rich Mestizo traditions to the lively Kriol culture, Belize embraces a multitude of ethnicities. East Indians, Chinese, Arabs, and Germans, affectionately known as Mennonites, also add to the mosaic of our cultural landscape.

Moreover, we take pride in having the lowest population density in Central America, allowing for a sense of spaciousness and tranquility in our picturesque surroundings.

Welcome to Belize, where diversity thrives and natural beauty abounds.

Language

We are Central America’s only English-speaking country. While English is Belize’s official language, Kriol is the language that we all speak. For example a morning greeting in Creole would be ‘Gud maanin’. But once you pay attention, you will be able to understand, and take a few phrases home. We also speak Spanish, mainly in the North and West of the country.

Weather

The weather is one of the best parts about visiting Belize. It’s always warm, with an average yearly temperature of 84° F (29° C). Costal sea breezes, as well as our jungle and rainforests, keep you cool even during the hottest summer months, and winters can be cool but never very cold. In the winter (November-March), the temperature rarely falls below 60°F (16°C), while the summer (May-September) temperature is around 86°F (30°C).

Our wet season lasts from June to December, when parts of the country receive up to 150 inches of rain, the heaviest rain usually falls in June or early July.

We also have a hurricane season, which starts in the month of June, and while Belize does not receive many direct hits, we do have severe tropical weather with high winds and rain. No need to be concerned; our safety, evacuation, and other procedures have proven to be effective.

Belize is a tropical destination and no matter what season you come, there’s always something to do and see down here.
